For her innovative firm, Emergency Response Africa, Nigerian Folake Owodunni has been named the recipient of the Global Aurora Tech Award 2024. Owodunni’s victory was announced on International Women’s Day.

Head of the Aurora Tech Award, Ekaterina Smirnova, commented on the importance of Owodunni’s accomplishment, saying that the honour serves as a continual reminder of the crucial role that women play in driving change and innovation.
“We celebrate the remarkable achievements of Folake Owodunni, Hannah Töpler, and Sarah Phiri-Molema. Their groundbreaking startups not only address critical needs in their communities but also serve as local role models, inspiring change and fostering innovation. These awards play a vital role in providing much-needed recognition to women in the tech industry, amplifying their contributions, and paving the way for greater gender equality and diversity in innovation,” Smirnova said.
This year’s record-breaking 694 applications from 102 countries highlight the global effect of women in technology and innovation. The Aurora Tech Award 2024 was established in 2020 by inDrive, a US-based global mobility and urban services platform.
Along with the esteemed merit, the top three finishers in the 2024 Aurora Tech Award competition will receive cash awards of $30,000, $20,000, and $10,000, respectively. Additionally, all three winners will have the opportunity to participate in the inDrive mentorship programme.
